A Small Alien

I started with a few thumbnails and played with silhouettes before proceeding to use Zbrush for the 3D model. Finally, I polished this little guy off in Photoshop after making a couple of design adjustments. I made his ears round and his head and feet larger to emphasize the cuteness, but retained the strange eyes and gangly arms to push that alien feel a bit as well.

Creature

My goal with this project was to take a premade 3D model and keep the same general shape while adding character and interesting features. My thought process behind this design was to create a creature who might be scary to look at, but gentle in nature. The original inspiration for the skin and sparse hair was the Mexican Hairless Dog as well as hairless cats, both of which are disliked by many because of their looks.

The 3D model used belongs to CG Spectrum and is not my own creation.

Mindflayer

This project was a practice of cinematic framing for illustration. I chose this particular thumbnail to polish because I felt that the angle really helped to emphasize the terror within the scene. 

Weapon Designs

This project was also taken from very basic, premade 3D models with the goal of keeping the same general silhouette while adding character. I believe the thought process for the axe on the left is clear, since the original shape did already resemble a dragon or a beast of some kind. As for the axe on the right, I was inspired by the precious scarabs from Ancient Egypt, and wanted to make this axe seem like something you might find in a museum; cleaned, polished, and preserved.
