THE START OF A JOURNEY — My path to become a 3D Artist
Hi!My name is Germán. I'm currently studying to become a 3D Character Artist. Last October, I started my studies at Animum Creativity Advanced School in 3D Character Modelling. After challenging myself to make the most out of any project, and developing some basic skills, I wanted to show my progress. Hope you like it!
VFX —
THE SWAMP CREATURE
A catfish-like creature I am currently finishing, based on this excellent concept art by Rudy Siswanto. It wouldn’t be out of place in an adventure film.
The main parts of the model were made using ZBrush. Then, I moved to Maya for the retopology and UV’s. Textures were done in Adobe Substance Painter, and the final renders with Arnold.
Turn around of the creature:

Anatomy studies —
LEARNING TO READ THE SKIN
The model was sculpted using Zbrush, with the retopology and UV’s developed in Maya. Textures were made in Adobe Substance Painter, except for the hair, which was added with Xgen. Finally, the renders were made using Arnold.

Anatomy studies— UNDERSTANDING THE BODY
This was the first ever project I developed as part of my 3D education. It was fundamental to understand the shapes and proportions of the human body. Approaching an in-deep anatomical study was intimidating at first, but I am quite proud of the final result.
The model was developed in Zbrush, the retopology with Maya and the final renders were made in Arnold.
Écorché :
Here we have the Écorché version of the model I made to understand the precise location of the muscles.
Facial expressions:
Once I had the model finished, I also made a little expression study. The chosen expression were: fear, rage and happines.
Conclusion
Thank you for reviewing my work! I know I still have a very long way ahead, but I think I am on the correct path. I can't wait for the next Rookies to see how much I have improved.
Also, I want to thank everybody who has helped me in this process.
