Round of applause for our sponsors

This is a collection of several assignments I've made during my first year as a 3D Animation student at Howest DAE.

3D Animation

In the 3D Animation course, we focused on the 12 principles of animation in the first semester, and on body mechanics in the second. While I had some experience with 2D animation, transitioning to 3D was quite different from what I had anticipated. I am determined to excel in this field, as I find the understanding of motion and energy extremely fascinating.

Rigs used: "Ultimate Bony" & "Dex" from "Body Mechanics Mega Pack"

Cutebot Assignment - 3D Pipeline

For the 3D Pipeline course, we went through all of the processes used in the industry to create a short 3D animation. We had to design a robot, model it, rig it, animate it, add simulations, and render it. I enjoyed the course, seeing the robot that I created come slowly to life was very rewarding. The project is still a work in progress as of this moment.

Eco House - 3D1 Assignment

In the first semester for the 3D1 exam, I had to make a 20x20m low-poly diorama of a chosen storyline, in my case "Eco-House". I dedicated approximately 65 hours to this project. I had no experience in 3D modeling before studying at Howest, so I'm very proud of the progress I made over the semester.

The Artisan's House - Preproduction1

The 1st assignment of the Preproduction course was to draw a rural Bulgarian scene, depicting a certain craft. I chose a furniture maker. The focus was on creating different ideations until we committed to one for the final A3 drawing. Everything was drawn traditionally, with digital shading added at the end.

Rustborn Racers - Preproduction1

Rustborn Racers was the exam assignment of Preproduction1. The goal was to design a race car capable of lasting in a 24-hour endurance race. The vehicle had to contain plane parts, as well as an unconventional weapon for a competitive advantage. For this assignment, I used ink on paper, as it allowed me to be more loose with my designs.

Linked - Preproduction2

The latest assignment from the Preproduction2 course, titled "Linked," focused on composition, shading, and mood. The assignment required linking the foreground element and the mid-ground element. I chose a theme that hits close to childhood, as who didn't want to live in a treehouse when they were young?

Cartoon Land - Visual Storytelling

For Visual Storytelling, we went over the animation preproduction pipeline for a 2D Animatic. We began with drawing stick figures that had different body proportions, then developed them into characters. We narrowed it down to one character and went further with making a model sheet. The exam assignment consists of making a storyboard and a 1-minute animatic for it, which is still currently a work in progress.

Thank you if you read this far! I hope you enjoyed my journey as a first year student.
