Hi everyone! I’m happy to present you ''Hamida'' my entry for The Rookies Awards 2024! This is my first personal project that I have been working on since I graduated a few months ago from BigRock.
Hamida is an original character from a story called ‘’Sunburnt’’. I dealt with the entirety of the characters’ creation. Hamida is the leader of a sect called the ''Desert Serpent'' and uses animals such as the shrrounding moths to control and re-educate her followers. In fact, the moment they sense a feeling of dissatisfaction or possible rebellion in people, the moths flap their wings and release a dust that stunts and calms those who inhale it.
This project was a real challenge for me since it was the first where I took care of every single aspect of the creative process. I first made all the models in Zbrush -except for the clothes- and then I did the retopology in Maya.
The process of making the clothes was the part where I was able to give freedom to my imagination in order to harmoniously combine a more worn style made up of leather fabrics and a slightly more classic one with lace and transparent fabrics. I created the base in Marvelous Designer and then I finalized them again in Zbrush.
The textures were created entirely in Substance Painter. The groom -made with xGen- was the most complex part to handle as this was the first time and I had to manage both animal and human hair. Nevertheless, I am particularly satisfied with the result. Below are a couple of photos of the guides I used for the hair.
The final result was rendered with Arnold Render. During the set process I experimented with various types of lights and HDRI until I got the desired result of an indoor atmosphere that was a little gloomy. Below ther is a little moodboard with the concept of this project.
Finally I would like to thank Michele Mantovan who followed me during the creation of this project.
Thank you so much for viewing and reading about this project! I can't wait to work on the next one!
