Animal - Ram

This rendering project was a big challenge for me because it was the first time I created organic 3D ! The sculpt of my ram was very interesting to do and I did it on Mudbow. I had drawn it upstream in order to reproduce in 3D each curve that defined the silhouette of the animal.

For the narration of my image, I took the idea of a brutal love that corresponded perfectly to the character of a ram. Looking at my image, we wonder : do they fight ? or do they kiss ?

And if you asked yourself these two questions, that’s mean : i did my job !

Process to realize my Ram

1 - References

To realize my ram, I took as reference the "Mouton de Saoy" ! I created a PureRef to store a maximum of reference photos on this animal to better understand its behavior, its wool, the shape of its horns and many other details essential to the creation of my ram !

In addition, in order to plan my second free shot, I did research to reproduce a beautiful photo in a diabolical theme, a concept that is strongly linked to the ram (supposedly the animal of satan).

2 - LookDev

After modeling my sheep, I focus on texturing and I set up my lookdev to test my textures. For this, I have greatly used Substance Painter to create the basic color maps. For the fur, I did it with Xgen Interactive on Maya.

3 - Environment and Posing

Once I have my ram finalized, I begin to create its environment in which I will put it in position. I put my lighting in place and I do some texture tests for my weed and voila ! Concerning its position, I made a simplified rigg on my ram (no skin).

4 - Free Shot

I reproduced an unhealthy and dark atmosphere to stage my "dark ram". To accentuate the demonic effect, I intensified his look on NukeX and darkened the outline of the image to create a feeling of togetherness.
