Hey everyone ! I'm excited to share with you my entry for this Rookies Award 2024. I created a demoreel showcasing my work done in school and also some personal projects made in the past few months since I graduated !

Demoreel

This demoreel mainly features shots of our short movie "Vidalia" made in team for our last year at Esma. It also features some other projects done during my studies.

Frankenstein Project

This is a character I decided to create in 3D in my personal time after graduating, the concept is from a group project we created during our studies at Esma.
I mainly focused on the sculpting and modelling for this project as I wanted to improve my skills in Zbrush. I had a lot of fun creating the bones and veiny aspects of her body and the folds of her clothes as well.

Wireframe - Raw - Compositing
I used Substance for the surfacing, Renderman and Maya for the renders, and Photoshop and Nuke for the compositing.

For this Frankenstein we were greatly inspired by the victorian era and the setting of a dark and eerie London.

As for the lights, I decided to use a spot as a key light for a bit of a theatrical lighting to emphasize a dramatic and melancholic atmosphere.
I chose to stay in black and white for that purpose too, but also to evoke this past century. It also allowed me to bring high contrast levels and details in the greys.

To pose the character I created a simple FK rig to put it in a this sitting pose. I created her skirt afterward, first by using the cloth simulation of maya to get the main drape, and then cleaning and rearranging the model obtained. Lastly, I used Zbrush to define more the folds of it and make it more realistic.

Even though the render was in black and white, I decided to work on the objects's textures in colours to make it more easy for me and have a more realistic aspect when put in black and white. It also allows to change back to colours if ever it was wanted.

2D concept created during our studies, in collaboration with Louise Bernard and Juliette Dupont. I was in charge of the line art and participated in the search for the designs of the characters.

Overall, if I had to rework on this project I'd spend some time improving the texture of her skin and play with the translucency of her skin. It was a great learning experience though to complete a 3D project of a character on my own. I definitely improved my sculpting abilities and even dabbled a little in rig and clothing !

Stylised Armchair

For this shorter personal project I wanted to explore 2D stylisation. I tried to incorporate my line art into the 3D and had fun with more painterly textures. It was very fun to explore this other way of texturing !

I started by working on the texture stylisation directly in photoshop on top of the 3D model. I then painted the final textures in Substance Painter. I rendered it with Renderman.
While working on it, I decided to improve the wood texture from the original concept idea, to have a more defined aspect, with more veins details. I realised that the concept's textures were a little flat and decided to also work a little more on the fabric folds.
