Second year at DAE

March Gutman
by MarchGutman on 18 May 2024 for Rookie Awards 2024

This year at DAE i got the opportunity to try out sculpting in 3D for the first time as well as learn more about character and stylized design. These experiences have made me realize that i enjoy creating both 2D and 3D art so I have set myself a new goal which is to get better at design and concepting!

 Mabel's Treehouse

Gravity Falls has been a great inspiration to me in the past and for this piece i once again looked there for an idea and decided to create a treehouse that would have belonged to a 10 year old version of the character Mabel Pines from the show.

Cute Creature

Oni is definitely a cutie and with this piece I strived to replicate the likeness of her 2D design into a 3D sculpt.

Star Wizard Assets

The misery of space and magic - who else to be tasked with exploring these fields but the Star Wizard! And for that I designed some tools and accessories.

Barber Dog

One of my favorite things about the designs of Saira Vargas and old Disney is their use of shape language. The flow and expression their works have inspired me to try and create my own pleasantly shaped character and tell a bit about his world through 3 props and a scene.

 Rustborn - Blind Russian General

Inspired by the art style of Sergi Brosa, the character was created based on 7 prompts : Gender x, Mesomorph, age 26-40, 80kg, blind, Russian and leader officer. All of that for the world of Rustborn : deserts and water where the only way of life is to scavenge and survive.

Dr. L.Fant

This was my first attempt at realism in 3D and for that I wanted to create a hybrid - animal head on a human body.

The L'Oreal Style and Colour Trophy

For this piece I wanted to create a Golden Goddess with flowing hair that defies gravity. This was the first time I used blender to create hair as well as experimented with Metahuman for the body itself.

Vampire Portrait

The vampire aesthetic has always intrigued me - there is just something about the prospect of dressing fancy, drinking blood and living for ever that makes you wonder how you would look like as a vampire. With this piece I indulged myself in that question and created this distinguished gentlevamp.
