Ida Gade Thorenfeldt - 3D Character art

by igt on 26 May 2024 for Rookie Awards 2024

I am a Norwegian character artist who just completed my Bachelor's in Game Art at the University of South Wales. I specialize in stylized art and here I will show you some of the projects I've been working on during my studies. Enjoy!

Norse dwarven blacksmith

This is the Final project for my Bachelor's in Game Art, where I was to create a fully game-ready character. I was inspired by the dwarven blacksmiths of the Norse myth of The Treasures of the Gods, and based my art style on Dishonored 2 as it fit the atmosphere I wanted for the character.
Throughout the process, I consulted with a professional, Norwegian blacksmith at “Smed Tjelle”, who provided valuable insights on designing decisions, by enhancing realism and historical accuracy.
For this project, I used ZBrush for the sculpt and made the clothes in Marvelous Designer. I retopologized in Maya and 3DS Max, textured in Substance Painter and rendered everything in Unreal Engine.

This is my reference and concept art. ^

Sea of Thieves Pirate bust

The goal of this project was to replicate the art style of Rare's “Sea of Thieves”.
I sculpted in ZBrush, retopologized and did the UV mapping in Maya and textured in Substance Painter. The main renders were done in Unreal Engine and also quickly set up this Marmoset viewer for showcasing.

Some examples of the art style I was replicating. ^

Old lady bust

This project was fully focused on sculpting and character creation. My goal was to convey character and personality mainly through the face, supported by accessories and pose. To focus on capturing intricate details and personality, I opted for a bust rather than a full body pose.
Meet “Agathe Wilhelmina von Münster-Coburg”, the sole heiress of a noble German family, who also amassed considerable fortunes from her three late husbands. This is a bust she commissioned of herself that is displayed in her entrance hall.
I sculpted her in Zbrush, rendered everything in 3DS Max and made the video in Adobe Premiere Pro.

The reference I used and the concept art I made. ^
