FX COMPOSITING PROJECTS

Hello, during my year at ESMA I've done a few projects that I'm excited to share with you. I really enjoyed working on them as I've always wanted to deepen my understanding of FX because it is my longtime dream to work in this field. Thanks to these projects, I've been able to learn a lot, and I hope you enjoy it!

PROJECT 1 : SANDMAN 

Personal project

This project was realized on Houdini, rendered with Karma and composited with Nuke. For the environment, I used HDRI. I used HeightField to make the floor and the mountains.

For this project, I wanted to create a sandman. The camera's point of view is at the height of a crouching person, so as not to be discovered by the creature.

This project allowed me to learn more about particle manipulation. 

The character animation is not mine.  I did the special effects, modeling, lighting, texturing, rendering and compositing.

PROJECT 2 : CHECKMATE

Compositing project : Transformation

For this project, I wanted to tell a little story. The king is losing, he's in checkmate. Nevertheless, he doesn't accept his defeat and decides to fight. Using his magic, he traps all the pieces in rust and wins in the end.

This project came along with its fair share of challenges, especially when it came to timing. I wanted the transition to be fluid and dynamic enough to understand what was going on.

The chessboard isn't mine, but I did make a few pieces. The aim was not to model or texture. I used Renderman for rendering and Houdini to create a magical effect. With Nuke I was able to do the transitions, volumetric rays, color correction, glow effects and other things.

PROJECT 3 :  SLAY FROG

BREAKDOWN ZAPPING PROJECT

For this project, we had 6 weeks of pre-production and 6 weeks of production. I was with 6 people and I learned a lot from this group.

During the project, we had different challenges. For my part, in cfx/fx, I had to make sure that the collision between the grass and the character was correct. I spent a long time testing until I found a solution. I was also able to learn how to manipulate and use grain to make powder.

The biggest challenge of compositing was to follow the artistic direction and do it in a very short time.

Nevertheless, this project helped me a lot and taught me a lot.
